Hiking
Hiking is one of my favorites things to do, but I do not consider it my hobby because unfortunately, I do not do it often. Yet, when I DO do it, I really enjoy it. It brings me peace to enjoy the landscape and the amazing views from the summit. I started to hike when I was 20 years old in my home country Venezuela. I used to do it every Sunday. Here in the United States, where I have lived for 4 years, I can't do it regularly because I haven't got a car. However, I have had the pleasure to be in some mountains. Which I have listed below.
In this amazing and beautiful park, I had my first hiking trip. The good thing about it is that it has different hiking trails and difficulty levels for all ages. Great Falls National Park has two sides that can be enjoyed, the Maryland side and Virginia side. I've been on the Virginia side.
Old Rag Mountain.
Located in the Shenandoah National Park, this park was my second, and most adventurous, hiking experience. On the Shenandoah website, they inform you that, "Old Rag is Shenandoah's most popular and most dangerous hike." It took my partner and I 8 hours to complete the hike. It went from a moderate hike to difficult and treacherous rocks. However, when we finally got to the summit it was worth it. The view was awesome, huge, and immense.
Harpers Ferry National Historical Park.
Located in West Virginia Harpers Ferry has night different trails. The Maryland Heights trail was what I hiked. I could describe it as an easy trail to hike. It took me 2 hours to complete the hike. An interesting fact about Harpers Ferry is that it is located at the confluence of the Potomac and Shenandoah rivers.
I'd like to hear about your favorite national parks to hike.

Ah, Harper's Ferry! That's one of my favorite places in the world! Not only is it gorgeous-- Thomas Jefferson once wrote that the view from the summit there was "worth a trip across the Atlantic"-- but it has a fascinating history as well. It's the site of John Brown's rebellion, which ignited the spark that led to the American Civil War.
ResponderEliminarI've been to only three national parks: Shenandoah, Smoky Mountains in Tennessee, and Grand Canyon. I've hiked/visited a lot of state parks, though. First Landing State Park near Virginia Beach and Calvert Cliffs in Maryland are two that I quite like. If you like marshes, as I do, those two are worth a visit.
ResponderEliminarAwesome pictures!
ResponderEliminarHonestly not a hiking fan but the places seem worth it. Good recommendations.

ResponderEliminarRather than hike, which generally involves and focuses on physical exertion, I prefer to "forest-bathe," that is, just take in the beauty of nature. I prefer aesthetics to calisthenics, I guess you could say.
ResponderEliminarThanks Brandon! I check them out and they are already on my list to go.
